GREENFIELD GROUP
of the
RIDING for the DISABLED ASSOCIATION
The
Greenfield Group was formed in 1974 at Greenfield, Trefnant for the pupils of the then new school
Ysgol Brondyffryn for Autistic children. We began with six riders and two ponies.
We have remained in the Trefnant area and now ride at Llanerch
Equestrian Centre. This helps to
accommodate our increased number of riders, now at least twenty, and also gives
us the comfort of an indoor school to overcome bad weather.
The riders come
from Pengwern College, Denbigh High School Special Needs, Plas
Brondyffryn, and some individuals. A band of volunteers prepare the ponies and
assist the riders as necessary, although the aim is to achieve as much
independence as possible safely. Each group comes under the umbrella of the
national Riding for the Disabled Association but is entirely responsible for
its own finances.
Riding helps
the 3C's, Confidence, Co-ordination and Communication as
well as being good exercise and fun.
It takes over
£3000 to run
the Group and more than half has to come from fund raising.
The Group meets every Monday from September through
to July
at
Llanerch
Equestrian Centre
from
10:30 am to 3 pm
Volunteers
are always welcome as are donations large and small.
